What would you include for blokes in a preventive health strategy?

Here’s a great opportunity to share what is working, and what could be better to help ensure Tasmania’s 20 year Preventive Health strategy works for men and boys.

How would you challenge systems and services to change, to adopt different approaches to better support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in Tassie? It’s often said men don’t look after their health, and while we would definitely challenge that idea, it’s not always easy to get men to share their experiences, ideas and perspectives in consultations like this.

We are collaborating with the Department of Health and ensure male perspectives are included, and so we need your ideas, thoughts and concerns as part of this consultation. Please join us on from 5.30 - 7.00 pm on Monday 14 July to share your ideas, and help us ensure the 20 year strategy includes the opportunities that will see the health and wellbeing of men and boys heading in the right direction.

Attendance options will be online, and face to face at Level 15 - 110 Collins Street, Hobart 7000

Below you can read on for more information, and background about the project.

More information about the Strategy.

Too many Tasmanians are just getting by – juggling work, caring for others, or living with chronic illness while systems only step in when things go wrong. But what if we didn’t wait for this?

The 20-Year Preventive Health Strategy is about making a different future possible – one where living well is something everyone can count on, not just hope for.

It’s not just about healthcare. It’s about making sure everyone has what they need to live a good life – no matter your age, postcode or background. Think safe homes and streets, clean air, nutritious, affordable food, good friends, and support.

Why does this matter?

The 20-Year Preventive Health Strategy is about far more than healthcare. Good health isn’t just about avoiding illness – it’s about feeling strong, happy, and able to do the things that matter. From spending time with loved ones to pursuing your passions, good health supports everything we do.

But here’s the thing – more than 70% of our health is shaped outside the health system. It starts in the places we live, work, and connect with others: in schools, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. Thriving local businesses, safe streets, green spaces, and strong social connections all play a vital role in keeping people healthy.

We have a big role to play.

By speaking up and making sure the Tasmanian Government invests in preventive health, we’re building a Tasmania where:

💙 Kids grow up with better opportunities
💼 Workers stay healthier for longer
👵 Older Tasmanians enjoy a better quality of life
